Your Mission
We are looking for a highly capable data scientist to play a pivotal role in the development of the National E-Infrastructure for Aging Research (NEAR). NEAR is a ground-breaking infrastructure comprising 15 databases derived from longitudinal cohort studies across various regions in Sweden, collectively encompassing over 100,000 individuals aged 50 and above. As our Database Coordinator, you will be at the forefront of harmonizing and analysing these rich and diverse datasets.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate closely with researchers, data providers, and local database administrators to facilitate seamless data flow for processing, analysis, and interpretation.
Employ advanced data management and statistical techniques to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the NEAR databases.
Handle data manipulation tasks such as editing, transforming, loading, and extracting data to support research objectives.
Devise and implement statistical strategies to harmonize disparate datasets and extract meaningful insights.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficiency in statistical and programming languages (e.g., R, Stata, SQL).
Experience with database languages (e.g., SQL).
Experience working with tools for the secure handling of sensitive information (i.e. encryption).
A passion for aging research and a commitment to advancing scientific knowledge in this field.

Advantageous Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Experience with Bash to do server maintenance of the NEAR metadata platform

NEAR is looking for a Statistician to assist NEAR users in the delivery of statistical and epidemiologic support to research projects.

Your mission
1) Works as a member of a research team/study team to provide appropriate statistical input in the design, execution and analysis of studies;
2) Participates in the development of operations and procedures for the collection, editing, verification and management of statistical data;
3) Processes large amounts of data for statistical modelling and graphic analysis;
4) consolidate the data of the different cohorts included in NEAR and ensure they are comparable, using harmonized methodology;
5) Participate in the preparation of written and oral presentations that summarize the analysis of data, interprets the results and provides conclusions and recommendations.

NEAR is looking for a highly capable system developer with a central role in the development of the national e-infrastructure for aging research (NEAR). Your daily work will include a mix of system development, maintenance of existing systems, system communication, data management (transformation, uploading, extraction) and statistical strategies for harmonization. The system developer will be part of the research group and have opportunity to carry out their own research projects.

The employment is a fixed-term employment of two years full-time.

NEAR is looking for a Scientific Communicator where the primary task is to promote and facilitate ongoing communication and support for the National E-Infrastructure on Aging Research (NEAR). The assignment includes:

continuously work with the project’s own website (WordPress), as well as with news and calendar events related to the project on ki.se (Drupal)
develop and disseminate relevant information about NEAR to identified target groups, e.g., through newsletters and campaigns
be of operational and strategic support to the NEAR team
contribute to the planning, marketing and implementation of workshops, events, conferences, and board meetings

NEAR is looking for a Database Coordinator where the primary task is to enhance the performance of the organization’s database included in the National E-Infrastructure on Aging Research (NEAR). The Database Coordinator will be responsible in implementing standardized database management procedures, and overseeing the installation, security, and upgrading of the NEAR’s database. You will be responsible in supervising and mentoring a team of database managers and to develop procedures to ensure data integrity and quality. Together with a team, you will also help the users of the infrastructure by cleaning, preparing and harmonize data for specific research projects. You will be part in different research projects and act as a project leader in some. This is a temporary position (substitute employment) of up to one year, with the possibility of extension.

Your profile
The applicant should have a master’s degree in a quantitative subject, preferably in epidemiology, public health, computer science or statistics. You need to have good knowledge in the Microsoft office package and statistical software (e.g., Stata, SPSS or R).

The position demands high level of organizational, interpersonal and communicational skills, prestige less collaboration and great attention to detail. Moreover, you need to be able to work independently and take initiative. Advanced analytical, problem-solving skills and experiences in leadership will be premiered. Very good English in both written and spoken is a demand. Good Swedish is highly valued.

NEAR is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to conduct work on gene-environment interplay in older adults included in NEAR. Specifically, longitudinal analyses will be conducted to understand how interventions from drug therapy interact with individual aging trajectories as assessed by different biomarkers of aging. The post-doc researcher will mainly be working with NEAR data harmonization for the variables related to the project, and will be responsible for project planning, data preparation (together with database managers within NEAR), and data analysis. The post-doc researcher will spend her or his time at the Aging Research Center (ARC) and the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) at Karolinska Institutet (KI).

Your profile
The applicant should have a PhD related to epidemiology, pharmaco-epidemiology, or aging and have experience with methods in biostatistics and epidemiological research, as well as registry-based data and/or genetic data. Excellent data management skills in R, SAS and/or Stata and Unix programming are meriting.

NEAR is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to conduct work on epidemiological research on depression in relation to neurodegenerative disorders in older adults. The postdoc researcher will spend her or his time at KI and GU carrying out a project concerning the complex interrelations between psychiatric- and neurodegenerative disorders. The postdoc researcher will be working with NEAR data harmonization for variables related to the project.

Your Profile
The applicant should have a PhD in Medicine and have good knowledge of depression in late life. A Master of science in Public Health is preferred. Experience of working with data collection and logistics within population-based epidemiological studies, data cleaning, quality controls and work of improvements in databases is also necessary. Experience of previous research in epidemiology, aging or mental illness is a merit. Experience in quantitative methods is also a merit. Scientific productivity (in terms of published articles) and documented ability to apply for and get funding, are further merits. Great emphasis will be placed on collaborative ability, ability to work independently and personal suitability. We stress research expertise when assessing applicants.

The core interests of the postdoc position rely on the identification of modifiable risk factors for the development of neurocognitive disorders, based on multifactorial data from the National E-Infrastructure on Aging Research (NEAR) by using deep learning and other artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. The postdoc researcher will spend her or his time at KI and Blekinge Institute of Technology. The postdoc researcher will mainly be working with NEAR data harmonization for variables related to the project. The postdoc researcher will be responsible for project planning, data preparation (together with database managers within NEAR), data analysis, and writing of scientific articles. The multidisciplinary project employs multiple machine learning and deep learning algorithms directed at solving healthcare problems.

Your profile
The applicant should have a PhD in biostatistics, epidemiology, or AI/Deep Learning and good knowledge of advanced statistics in health settings. Essential skills are processing and interpreting health data in multiple forms, including big data healthcare multifactorial databases, as well as medical imaging. Experience of data collection and logistics within population-based studies, data cleaning, quality controls and work on databases is also a strength. Scientific productivity (published articles) and experience from large-scale scientific collaborations are further merits.
